Tax Free Weekend Underway

The sales tax holiday is underway in North Carolina. Until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, you can shop for many back to school items without having to pay sales tax. Just because it's on your child's school supply list, however, does not mean it's automatically tax-free. Here's a look at the overall rules for the weekend.

The things that are exempt from sales tax are:
Clothing
Shoes
School supplies of $100 or less per item
School instructional materials of $300 or less per item
Sports/recreational equipment of $50 or less per item
Computers of $3,500 or less per item
Computer supplies of $250 or less per item
Tablet computers and Netbooks of $3,500 or less per item
E-readers are not tax-free
