State Budget Restores Some Funding For Tryon Palace

Supporters of a major historic tourist attraction in the east are carefully watching the state budget process.

The budget restored $500,000 in funding to Tryon Palace in New Bern after the site lost $996,000 in the current fiscal year, according to the New Bern Sun Journal. The paper reported the restored funding won't be enough to save all the jobs on the chopping block at Tryon Palace.

Officials told the Sun Journal they were hoping for more money. They said the restored funding is a one-time deal - not something they can plan on every year.
