Previous Story

If the recent sunshine has you beach bound, there is a swimming alert you should consider before hitting the water in Onslow County.

The North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources website shows officials completed a water check on Monday morning about a mile southwest of the Bogue Inlet. Specifically, the sample was taken along the ocean-side of Bear Island.

That sample showed a higher than normal level of enterococci bacteria. That level was higher than acceptable state and federal standards.

With a swimming alert, it is standard procedure for the Department to test the water again to determine if a swimming advisory will be posted.
