Crews battling the Juniper Rd. wildfire in Pender County face another day of extreme heat Friday to complicate their efforts.

U.S. Forest Spokesman Phillip Reams says five fire trucks and about 55 firefighters are battling the blaze. Reams says firefighters are dealing with the heat and lack of shade by drinking lots of water and taking breaks in air conditioned vehicles.

Fighting the wildfire that sparked June 19 has cost $3.3 million so far. Lightning is believed to have caused the fire, which now stands at 85 percent contained.
