Police said one man started his Wednesday night sitting on a porch and ended up in the hospital with a gunshot wound.
New Bern Police said at 8:50 p.m. Wednesday, they got a call of shots fired near 1st Avenue and Broad Street in the city.
Officers said they arrived to find 48-year-old Eddie Best shot through the leg.
Police say Best told them he was sitting on a nearby porch when there was an exchange of gunfire, and he got up to see what was going on.
Officers said that was when the man was shot through the leg, and spotted juveniles running away from the area.
Police said the victim was treated at the hospital and released Wednesday night.
The search for the person behind the gun continues.
