Durham Police have released the name of a 9-year-old boy accidentally shot to death at his home.

Police said Christian Pittman died in the shooting Monday night.

Police Chief Jose Lopez said Christian and an older brother were playing with a gun when it went off.

Lopez said the shooting was the result of the failure to secure the gun from the youngsters. He says owners should get gun locks so the weapons cannot be accidentally fired.

Police have not released the name of the brother or other family members.
