New Bern Man Airlifted After Truck Collision

A New Bern man was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville early Wednesday morning after a truck collided with his car, which was parked on the side of Highway 17 in Vanceboro.

Craven County lawmen say, at 2:40 a.m. Wednesday, the man was parked in his Volkswagen car on the side of the highway about a half mile away from Weyerhaeuser Road.

The truck, which was traveling north on Highway 17, collided with the back of the car, pushing it off the road and pinning the driver inside for a short amount of time.

After he was freed and then airlifted to Vidant Medical Center to check on possible internal injuries. The officer said that it is still unclear whether the car was in or out of the travel lane.

The driver of the truck was not injured.
