The new Amtrak bus connector service in several Eastern Carolina cities gets underway Wednesday.
State Secretary of Transportation, Gene Conti, was in Greenville Tuesday to talk about the new service to help people get from several cities to the train in Wilson.
Thruway bus service will establish two Eastern North Carolina routes, one serving Greenville, New Bern, Havelock and Morehead City, and a second serving Goldsboro, Kinston, Jacksonville and Wilmington. Each route will connect with the Amtrak Palmetto train at the station in Wilson.
Havelock Mayor Jimmy Sanders says many will benefit from the service that will pick up passengers in Havelock at the visitor center. Sanders says, "For the military folks looking for and economical way to get home for leave and holidays and those types of things, this is quick, easy, convenient and fairly inexpensive."
Amtrak has a list of all stops along each route on its website.

Amtrak is launching a new bus service this week to help you get to a train station in the east that can connect you to many other cities.
Amtrak will host its inaugural run of their new Thruway bus service to eastern Carolina Tuesday. One route will bring bus service from the train station in Wilson to Greenville, New Bern, Havelock and Morehead City. A second route will serve Goldsboro, Kinston, Jacksonville and Wilmington. Each route will connect with the Amtrak Palmetto train service at the Amtrak station in Wilson.
Major stops along the Palmetto route include New York, Washington D.C., Charleston, Savannah, Jacksonville, Fl., Orlando and Tampa/Miami.
The first day of service to the public is Wednesday.
