Greenville Hole In Wall Caper Caught On Camera

More Video...

Greenville police say they do not think the break-in of a local electronic store is connected to other recent break-ins using the same mode of entry: cutting a hole in the building's wall and disabling alarms.

Police are investigating the heist at World Wide Wireless on West 14th Ave. in Greenville. It happened sometime late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.

Surveillance video shows two men were in the store for more than an hour and a half. The men broke through the bathroom and disabled the alarm in the ceiling.

The owner says they broke open the ATM and gaming machines and got away with more than $5,000 in cash.

No suspects have been named or arrested.

Meanwhile, the Pitt County Sheriff's Office is investigating more than a dozen "hole-in-the-wall" break-ins over the past several months.

Previous Story

After more than a dozen break-in's with a similar story, Greenville police are adding another location to the list.

According to a Greenville police report recently made public, World Wide Wireless on West 14th Avenue is the latest victim of the hole-in-wall break-ins.

The report indicates a hole was cut in a back wall of the business sometime between 11:04 Tuesday night and 11:46 Wednesday night.

According to police, the ATM in the business was severely damaged to the tune of $5,200 and an undetermined amount of cash was stolen.

In August, Pitt County Sheriff Neil Elks said finding the crooks who were targeting local businesses using this method of thievery was high on his priority list.

In August, investigators said they were looking into more than a dozen similar crimes in the east over the past several months, but would not specify how many of those crimes had occurred.

Victims have included the Junction Store in Farmville and post office in Stokes. It is not clear if the cases are connected.
