Man Who Was Pepper Sprayed Has Case Continued

The man who was pepper sprayed at a Kinston Walmart on Black Friday was in court Monday.

Gordon Jackson, who is a former Kinston police officer, is being charged with disorderly conduct in Lenoir County.

According to police, an off duty officer who was hired by Walmart to work security was trying to quell a disturbance and make an arrest. While attempting to subdue the crowd the officer used pepper spray.

Jackson told WITN that all he did was say to an officer they probably shouldn’t have sprayed the pepper spray with so many kids and elderly folks around.

Jackson says that’s when he was asked to leave and when he turned to do so, he says officers threw him on merchandise and cuffed him.

The man appeared in district court Monday and his case was continued to March 5th.

Kinston Public Safety is conducting an internal investigation into the actions of the off duty police officer.
