Police said a Georgia man jumped from a moving vehicle Tuesday afternoon, and landed in the hospital before being taken to the Onslow County Jail.
According to Jacksonville Police spokeswoman, Beth Purcell, officers were called to handle a traffic incident at 12:47 Tuesday afternoon in the city.
Investigators said the discovered 23-year-old Cody Pruitt of Georgia had been behind the wheel of a vehicle, driving along Bell Fork Road when he jumped out of the vehicle while it was moving at a slow speed.
Purcell said a front seat passenger was able to grab the wheel and take control of the vehicle.
A juvenile was in the back seat of the vehicle, according to Purcell. No one inside that vehicle was hurt during the incident.
Officials said Pruitt was taken to Onslow Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.
By 5:25 p.m. Tuesday, Pruitt was booked in Onslow County jail, according to officers.
Online jail records show Pruitt has since bonded out of jail.
He is due in an Onslow County court room on May 29th on three misdemeanor charges of child abuse.
