Lost Bonds Replaced Early For NC Tornado Victims

The U.S. Treasury has promised to speed the replacement of lost or destroyed savings bonds for people affected by the severe weather in North Carolina this month.

The Bureau of Public Debt says it will waive the typical one-year waiting period for holders of Series "EE" and "I" savings bonds lost in the sweep of tornados across the state on April 16.

Forms to request redemption are available by calling (800) 245-2804 or downloading form PD F-1048 from the internet site www.treasurydirect.gov . Claims must be certified as instructed on the form.

The early redemption period extends only through May.
