Local School Fights To Stay Open After Losing Charter

A charter school in Morehead City is fighting to keep its doors open after the State Board of Education voted to pull its charter.

Board members for Cape Lookout Marine Science High School are taking their case to court Thursday, with a hearing scheduled with the Office of Administrative Hearings.

School officials say the Board of Education has not given them adequate reasons for closing the school, according to the Carteret County News Times. The state board decided not to renew the charter for Cape Lookout Marine Science High School because of financial problems and for having the lowest test scores in the state.

We will keep you posted on what happens.
