UPDATE: Storms Damage Buildings In Western Carolinas

Emergency management officials are reporting property damage, including a roof ripped off of a house near the City of Lenoir, as a line of storms moves through the Carolinas.

No serious injuries have been reported.

Caldwell County spokeswoman LouAnne Kincade said several homes were damaged early Thursday near Lenoir. Trees and power lines fell. Several roads have been closed.

The violent storms that have killed more than 175 people in the South tracked northeast overnight. South Carolina emergency management officials reported no serious problems early Thursday.

Henderson, Transylvania, Macon and Burke counties all reported tornado sightings. Trees and power lines were reported down in those areas, as well as Caldwell, Guilford and Madison counties.

A tornado watch was in effect across much of the central Carolinas until noon.

There have been few reports of damage and no injuries as the line of storms that has killed dozens across the South moved into the Carolinas.

Emergency management officials in South Carolina said Thursday they had received no reports of significant damage. There was a report of roof damage at a Greenville County apartment complex Thursday.

A spokeswoman for North Carolina's emergency management office also had no early reports of serious damage.

Residents in Henderson, Transylvania and Burke counties reported seeing tornados and trees and power lines were reported down in those areas as well as Caldwell and Madison counties.

The National Weather Service was checking a report that one house was destroyed in Macon County.

A tornado watch was in effect across much of the central Carolinas until noon.
