Kinston Police Search For Shootings Suspects, Ask For Community's Help

A month of violence in Kinston has police asking for the community to speak up. There are several recent unsolved shootings including one this weekend.

Kinston Public Safety says lack of cooperation from the public is part of the problem in solving a rash recent of shootings.

Saturday night just before midnight, officers say two men were gunned down at Carver Courts housing complex near building 9. Police say 26-year-old Ricky Davis was shot in the leg and 22-year old Miguel Wingate was shot in the abdomen.

Officers say they have had very little help from the public, and they have been dealing with the same problem in a murder case from nearly a month ago when 20-year-old James Franklin was shot and killed outside his grandmother's home at 205 Capitola Avenue .

"We're out there beating the bushes talking to folks trying to get some info and we're hoping we could get some people who will cooperate with us, because we could certainly use their help," said Kinston Public Safety Spokesman Woody Spencer.

Police say if you know anything about this crime you can call the tip line to remain anonymous at (252) 939-4020 or email tips@ci.kinston.nc.us.
