TROOPERS: Sleep Deprivation Caused Fatal Crash That Trapped Girl

The investigation into a crash that a 9-year-old girl survived though her father was killed is now over. The child spent nearly two full days trapped in the vehicle with her deceased father.

The Highway Patrol says the November 2011 crash in Cove City in Craven County that killed Douglas Landon was caused by the man's sleep deprivation. The final report states Landon had worked 10-12 hours that day at his landscaping job, and also did work around the house before the fatal trip to the store.

Jordan Landon survived the terrible crash that flipped her father's car off Highway 55 near Turkey Quarter Creek Road. The child was treated at the hospital but released.

Troopers said alcohol was not a factor in the wreck.
