Governor Perdue: Outer Banks Will Be Set For Labor Day

Despite the destruction caused by Hurricane Irene, Gov. Beverly Perdue says North Carolina's Outer Banks will be ready for the last big holiday weekend of the summer.

Speaking in Kill Devil Hills on Sunday, Perdue says almost all the beaches in the state are already open, and that Dare County beaches will follow in time for Labor Day.

Dare County includes some of the hardest hit areas of the storm, including parts of Hatteras Island that are inaccessible because of breaches in N.C. Highway 12.

County Commission Chairman Warren Judge agrees with Perdue, saying the county will be ready for the thousands of visitors expected to come during Labor Day weekend.

But Judge says a tremendous amount of work remains before Dare County is back to normal.
