Former ECU Football Player Passed Away Early Friday Morning

The family of Spencer Hampton said Heaven has gained another angel. Hampton is the former ECU football player recently diagnosed with stage four melanoma.

Spencer's sister, Ashley Hampton Sarafino, posted on the Facebook group "Prayers for Spencer" this morning around 1:45 a.m..

"As of 1 a.m. the strongest person I know lost his battle with cancer. Words cannot begin to express the hurt we are all feeling right now; however, we find comfort in knowing that Spencer has left his temporary home and rejoicing at the gates of Heaven. While we all have been praying for healing here on earth it became obvious that Spencer would be healed in Heaven. I want to personally thank each and everyone of you for the prayers and continued support over these last three months," Ashley wrote.

Spencer was 24 years old. He graduated from D.H. Conley in 2006 and married Lindsay Styons on April 21 of this year.
