A former Camp Lejeune Marine took a plea deal Wednesday morning in the murder of a woman whose body was found outside of Maysville.
Raul Torres pleaded guilty to second degree murder. The 25 year old was accused of murdering Anneka Lasseter, 29, in May 2010. Her body was found in the woods off Highway 58 near Maysville in Jones County.
At the time of the murder, Torres was a married man and dated Lasseter. Lasseter's friends told WITN she may not have known Torres was married. Authorities say Lasseter and Torres were no longer together at the time Lasseter disappeared.
The judge sentenced Torres to serve between 13 and 16-1/2 years in prison.
In the courtroom both the victim's mother and aunt spoke out, saying Lasseter was wonderful person and a great mother to her two boys, who are now 5 and 9 years old. The family says it still wants answers why Torres killed Lasseter.
