FIRST ON WITN: Six Kids Inside When Gunfire Hits Apartment

No one was hurt after gunfire tore through an apartment with six children inside Monday night.

Kinston police believe the shooting on East Highland Avenue was probably a random act.

It happened around 10:25 p.m. The woman who lives at the apartment tells us there were six children in the apartment at the time. One shot ended up in the ceiling, and another through the door.

The woman says she's lived there for 10 months and believes it was an accident.

Kinston police are investigating a shooting at an apartment Monday night.

Officials told WITN that a suspect or suspects shot at an apartment at 912 E. Highland Ave., which is just off Highway 11, around 10:25 p.m. We're told there were people home at the time of the shooting, but no one was injured.

Officials have not released any details on possible suspects or how many suspects they are looking for. Kinston police say they will be handing the case over to their Investigations Department. We'll keep you posted as more information is released.
