Troopers Charge Wife In Death Of Elderly Husband After Crash

State troopers have charged a woman for the death of her elderly husband after a car crash Wednesday afternoon.

Trooper Sean Spring says 84-year-old Ralph Gurganus was a passenger in his wife's vehicle when she pulled out in front of another vehicle on Highway 258, north of Richlands. Linda Gurganus, who is 62-years-old was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to yield.

The woman and the other driver, 84-year-old Lilly Barnes of Jacksonville, were taken to Vidant Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash in Onslow County.

Highway Patrol dispatchers say a trooper responded to a crash reported at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday on Highway 258 near Union Church Chapel Road, which is just south of Richlands.

According to the Jacksonville Daily News, one person was killed in that crash. The name of the victim was not released.
