TROOPERS: 2 DWI Drivers Bring Down Power Poles, Road Closed

Troopers say two accused drunk drivers wrecked at the same time, knocking down two power poles, forcing the NCDOT to close the road for repairs.

Trooper B.M. Tain said 30-year-old Sequon Wright of Magnolia and 23-year-old Gleen Perlata of Clinton are lucky to be alive after they wrecked on the same road, at the same time Friday morning.

Investigators said alcohol contributed to both wrecks around 1:50 Friday morning along NC 11, north of Wallace.

Trp. Tain says the drivers were traveling close to each other and when one ran off the road to the left, the other ran off to the right.

Two power poles were brought down, along with power lines.

Trp. Tain said live power lines were on and around both men's vehicles.

Investigators said they do not believe the men knew each other, but just happened to wreck at the same time for the same reason.

Both men are facing driving while impaired charges.

The department said NC 11 was closed at 3:30 a.m. from Stallings Road to NC 41, and is expected to reopen around noon Friday.
