Bertie Co. Ceremony For Tornado Victims

Victims and survivors of the deadly tornadoes last month in Bertie County were remembered and honored with a ceremony Tuesday night.

All twelve people who died, and their families, were honored by county and state officials.

Families of those victims, friends and community members heard from county commissioners and from representatives from Governor Perdue's office and U.S. Senator's Burr & Hagan.

A candelight ceremony followed the remarks by the dignitaries.

Families were given a certificate to honor their loved ones after the ceremony.

A ceremony to honor the victims and bring together the survivors of the April 16th tornado in Eastern Carolina will take place Tuesday.

Bertie County is planning the ceremony at the Bertie Middle School gymnasium on Highway 13 in Windsor. The event is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.

Twelve people died in the storms in Bertie County, accounting for half the tornado deaths in the state. Officials say the ceremony aims to bring together the survivors, families and communities.
