Carteret County Schools are urging parents to talk with their children about the dangers of interacting with strangers, after a man tried to lure a girl into his van at her bus stop.
Morehead City police say the man approached the girl Tuesday morning. Police say he motioned for her to come over to his van, and she refused. He then asked if she needed a ride, and she refused. Police told us the man said he would take her wherever she wanted to go, and she refused. He then drove off.
Police encourage students to wait for the bus with other people instead of standing alone. Also, they say kids who are approached by a stranger should start screaming.
