Man Robbed At Gunpoint In Rocky Mount Mall Parking Lot

For the first time this holiday season, local police say a shopper was held up in the parking lot of a mall.

It happened just after dark Monday, around 6:00 p.m. at the Golden East Mall in Rocky Mount. Police say the two gunmen robbed a man in the parking lot between Best Buy and Belk, and then took off in a gray Nissan Altima. The victim was not hurt.

As shopping malls are extremely busy this time of year, it's important to take extra precautions to stay safe. Here are three things to protect yourself in parking lots this this holiday season.

First, park in a well-lighted area. You may go inside when it's light out, but finish shopping after dark.

Second, lock your car.

Finally, it may sound obvious, but remember where you park. If you end up wandering around a parking lot looking confused, police say that could make you a target for thieves.
