An air quality alert remains in effect Wednesday until 3pm, stemming from the Juniper Road wildfire in Pender county.
Jones, Duplin, Onslow and Pender counties are expected to be under code red, while Beaufort, Carteret, Craven, Dare, Greene, Lenoir, Nash, Pitt and Wayne counties are expected to be under code orange.
Meanwhile, Bruce MacDonald, Public Information Officer with the North Carolina Division of Forest Resources, says the wildfire is still only 68-percent contained.
Nearby residents can still expect to see smoke because the interior pockets of the fire are still burning.
