After massive food recalls involving peanut butter, tomatoes, jalapeno peppers, beef and even cookie dough, the government is announcing ways it will strengthen food safety standards.
Earlier this year, the Obama Administration established a food safety panel. That panel has since come up with new rules regarding safe handling of various foods such as tomatoes, leafy greens, meat and eggs.
The FDA and Agriculture Department will adopt those rules including the development of better tracing systems so the source of bacterial outbreaks can be pinpointed more easily. The agency that inspects meat will also increase its sampling of ground beef products.
