Officials at the Global TransPark in Kinston say they are only months away from getting going on building railroad tracks.
GTP officials say construction on a railway into the TransPark will start no later than early 2010 and will be finished no later than January 2012. The track will 5.8 miles long, including a railway bridge and ten roadway crossings.
While the tracks are going up to fit the needs of Spirit Aerosystems, officials all other TransPark tenants will benefit as well.
"The coming of Spirit AeroSystems served as the catalyst for this rail construction. But it is being designed to serve the needs of any Global TransPark tenant, existing or prospective, that might need rail to service its business," said Jason Orthner, a civil engineer from the N.C. Department of Transportation's Rail Division.
Spirit Aerosystems is constructing a massive facility at the GTP, expected to open next year.
