"The Beav" Talks Diabetes In NC

A group that represents pharmaceutical research and biotechnology companies will release a report in North Carolina on more than 180 potential new medicines for diabetes.

The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America will release the report in Raleigh on medicines for diabetes now being

tested in human clinical trials or awaiting approval from the Food and Drug Administration. The release will feature Jerry Mathers, who played Beaver on the television show "Leave it to Beaver."

Mathers has diabetes and is a patient advocate.

The state's Diabetes Advisory Council has warned that diabetes in North Carolina has reached epidemic rates; an estimated 600,000 residents have the disease.
