Troxler Visits Potential OLF Site

CAMDEN, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina's top agriculture official is visiting a farm near the site of a practice jet landing field the Navy is proposing to build in the northeastern part of the state.

Agriculture Secretary Steve Troxler has scheduled a news conference Monday afternoon about the proposed landing field and will tour farms affected by the proposal in Camden County.

The Navy has faced opposition as it considers sites in Camden and Gates counties and several sites in Virginia to build an outlying landing field. The project would allow Navy pilots to practice taking off and landing as they prepare to deploy aboard aircraft carriers.

A draft environmental impact statement that assesses each location is due out this summer.
