The nursing profession may itself need a hand.
Even though there was a shortage of about 125,000 nurses as recently as last summer, the recession appears to be putting a bite in demand. Former nurses are re-entering the field after their spouses lose jobs, but the health care field, like everything else, is hurting too and fewer positions are temporarily available.
Experts say this is temporary, however, with estimates ranging from 300,000 to a million new vacancies coming on line by the year 2020.
