Child's Death Under Investigation

The death of a child is under investigation. Rocky Mount Police say they were called to investigate an alleged assault on a child Saturday afternoon. The report said the ten-year-old was treated at Nash General Hospital but then transferred to Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Police say the child died there early Monday morning.

A police report says there is "no information relevant to support any criminal wrongdoing." However, the medical examiner will conduct an autopsy this week, which police say could shed more light on whether there is a criminal angle to the child's death.

Police did not release the name of the child. However, the Rocky Mount Telegram reports that a 10-year-old Hubbard Elementary student in died over the weekend. His name was Daekwon Brodie.
