The hot topic of medical marijuana is growing in North Carolina.
A state legislator from Guilford County has filed a bill to legalize marijuana for some patients as a form of medicine. The bill says that modern research has found the illegal drug to be effective in treating or alleviating pain, nausea, and other symptoms associated with certain debilitating medical conditions.
The bill also reveals that North Carolina is already part of distributing marijuana to patients in states where it's legal. It says pot grown at a federal research garden in Mississippi is processed and distributed by the Research Triangle Institute in Research Triangle Park.
Thirteen states have legalized medical marijuana.
