Marines Deploy To Iraq

The command element of the II Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Camp Lejeune, will begin deploying to Iraq.

Approximately 200 Marines and sailors will leave the base on Wednesday on a scheduled 13-month deployment to Iraq. Once there, the unit will replace Camp Pendleton, Calif. -based I MEF (Fwd) as Multi National Force West in Al Anbar province.

The II Marine Expeditionary Force is commanded by Lt. Gen. Dennis J. Hejlik. It is one of three MEF's in the Marine Corps. This is the third time that II MEF has rotated into Iraq. The last deployment was in 2007.
