The U.S. Coast Guard says it has rescued two people from a sailboat that had lost power and couldn't operate with torn sails several dozen miles from shore.
The Coast Guard said it received a mayday call early Sunday morning. Helicopter Crews from both North and South Carolina responded to the scene about 37 miles southeast of Cape Fear to establish communication.
A boat crew then towed the sailboat back to the Cape Fear River. The Coast Guard said an emergency position-indicating radio beacon helped locate the vessel.
