Both heredity and lifestyle appear to work together when it comes to heart disease. Now, a group of international scientists have found a single genetic mutation virtually guarantees a person will develop heart problems.
The study estimates that about 1 percent of the world's population has this mutation. Most of the affected people are from India, or of Indian descent.
Now that this mutation has been found, researchers say carriers could be identified early and perhaps adopt a healthier lifestyle to cut down on their risk for cardiovascular problems.
