Black Ice Causes Car Crashes

"They're wreckin' all over the place." That's how one State Highway Patrol trooper responded to a question about whether black ice was an issue Wednesday morning.

The Highway Patrol says there were at least six fender benders in the Craven and Pamlico County area.

A trooper in Onslow County says he's counted four accidents there. Jacksonville Police reports six accidents on the Louis Sewell Bridge between 4:45 am and 6 am Wednesday. Several accidents were reported near Kenansville on I-40.

Black ice occurs when the road looks wet, but it's actually a thin layer of ice. Remember that bridges and overpasses freeze faster than regular roads.
