More people seem to be gambling on their future as lottery sales are climbing.
More than half of all states that run lotteries say their sales are up, and the economy might just be to blame. According to scientific games, a lottery vendor, 25 of 42 states with lotteries show higher sales of scratch off and daily lottery games since July.
Experts say hard times may move people to justify playing small stakes lotteries, even while cutting back on expenses. Meanwhile, national games like powerball and mega-millions have dropped off, but experts say those games are tied to the jackpot amount.
