McCrory Won't See Another Term As Charlotte Mayor

Charlotte mayor and former Republican candidate for governor Pat McCrory says he won't seek another term leading North Carolina's largest city.

McCrory said Thursday he will not seek an eighth term in office. He said he will consider other political opportunities, but didn't detail his plans.

McCrory still has one year left in his current term as mayor. He was first elected in 1995, and became the city's youngest mayor.

McCrory lost to Democratic Beverly Perdue last month in the closest governor's race in 36 years in North Carolina.

McCrory said Thursday he had already decided not to seek another term as mayor before announcing his gubernatorial candidacy 11 months ago.

McCrory received 47 percent of the vote in the November election.
