30th Annual National Night Out Hits Home

Neighborhoods all over eastern Carolina are meeting up Tuesday afternoon and into the evening with neighbors- some from down the street and others in uniform.

Nationwide, except for the state of Texas, National Night Out is Tuesday, August 6th.

The idea is to create community conversation about how to keep neighborhoods safe and crime-conscious.

In eastern Carolina, a handful of law enforcement agencies met with residents in various cities.

Greenville police officers met with residents at more than 20 locations across the city.

In Jacksonville, events started earlier in the week with a 5K run and walk on Saturday, August 3rd. Jacksonville Police have posted a list of the 5K winners on their Facebook page. Events for Tuesday kicked off at 5 p.m. at Riverwalk Crossing Park with live music and fireworks later.

In Plymouth, city officials say a variety of law enforcement agencies were at the park on Water Street with family fun events Tuesday night.

Bethel's celebration of National Night Out was on Main Street with free hotdogs and drinks along with family activities.
