A hearing is scheduled for one man charged with murder in the shooting death of the former student body president at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
A hearing is scheduled for the Monday afternoon session of Orange County Superior Court for 22-year-old Demario Atwater, accused of first-degree murder in the death of former UNC student body president Eve Carson.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Sunday that District Attorney Jim Woodall is scheduled to say whether he plans to seek the death penalty of Atwater, although he expects the hearing to be continued.
The 22-year-old Carson was found March 5 lying on a street not far from the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Prosecutors have charged Atwater and 17-year-old Laurence Lovette with first-degree murder in her death.
