Ten Counties Face Tax Issues On Ballot

Voters in ten counties in Eastern Carolina will vote on whether to raise the local sales tax or enact a land transfer tax.

Eight counties are considering increasing the local sales tax by a quarter cent. That would amount to one penny more for each four dollars spent.

The counties considering the sales tax increase are Duplin, Edgecombe, Greene, Hertford, Nash, Onslow, Wilson and Wayne.

Two counties are considering enacting a land transfer tax. This is a .4% tax that would affect people buying and selling property. Gates and Tyrrell Counties have this tax question on the ballot.
