Original Story:

Kinston Police say a man was shot on the grounds of Southeast Elementary School in Kinston Wednesday evening. The school's address is 201 S. McDaniel St. in Kinston.

The shooting happened at 5:40 p.m. Thursday, according to police, which is well after the school day had ended.

The shooting victim, police say, is 30-year-old Norris Donnell Bell. Police say he was transported to Pitt County Memorial Hospital after the shooting. Officials said Thursday morning that Bell had been treated and released.

Police are searching for 18-year-old Alkein Muhammad. They say Muhammad may have opened fire because of an argument over a female.

This is not the first time bullets have flown near this elementary school in Kinston. In April 2006, a man was shot across the street from Southeast Elementary, and that time, school was in session. In fact, at least two classes were on the playground when the shots rang out across the street. The school was put on lockdown that day. No students were injured.
