Wayne Co. Schools To Observe Memorial Day

Students in Wayne County will get to celebrate Memorial Day, after all.

The Wayne County School Board is planning to amend the school calendar to give students the day off on Memorial Day. People had been complaining to school officials about not observing the holiday, especially in a military town. Goldsboro, the seat of Wayne County, is home to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.

On the Wayne County Public Schools website a posting says: "The Wayne County Board of Education plans to amend the 2007-2008 school calendar, in order for students to have the opportunity to observe Memorial Day with their families. Students will however be required to attend school on Saturday, May 31, which will be an 'Early Release' day. Official Action will be taken at the May 5 Board Meeting."
