The Internal Revenue Service says it will start sending out economic stimulus checks in May. However, the IRS says the fastest way to get your check is to ask for a direct deposit of your tax refund. The government says those who do that will be first in line to get the economic stimulus check. Direct deposit payments begin on May 2. Checks will be mailed out beginning May 16.
You cannot get an economic stimulus check, the IRS says, unless you file a 2007 tax return. 130 million household are eligible for the checks. Many individuals can expect a $600, while married couples receive $1,200. Parents may receive an additional $300 for each child.
