Three people have died in Eastern Carolina this week in house fires. Officials with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, say deaths caused by winter fires are particularly preventable.
Officials say more than 4,000 Americans die each year in fires and more than 20,000 are injured. FEMA says electrical fires can be a killer especially in the winter months when more people are staying inside and are using more lighting, heating and appliance.
