The decision by Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton to run for North Carolina governor means some Democrats are considering a bid to become the party's nominee for the No. 2 job in the executive branch.
Cal Cunningham, the 2010 U.S. Senate candidate, and 2008 lieutenant governor's primary candidate Hampton Dellinger say they are looking at whether it makes sense to seek the Democratic nomination in May. Dalton is running for the top spot after Gov. Beverly Perdue announced Thursday she's not seeking re-election.
Cunningham said he's having conversations with Democrats he met during his unsuccessful Senate campaign and plans a further statement soon. The Davidson County attorney lost in a runoff to Elaine Marshall.
Dellinger is a Durham attorney who said Friday he's going to consider the idea, too.
