UPDATE: Power Outages Caused By Winds

High wind gusts are being blamed on scattered power outages in the overnight. Progress Energy officials say power is back on in Pitt, Beaufort, Craven and Lenoir counties.

PE officials say the power went out in Havelock, near Cherry Point MCAS at 11:20 p.m. Officials say the outages affected 91 customers. Crews were able to restore power by 3 a.m.

Power is now restored in Beaufort and Pitt county, it came back on about 1:15 a.m.. Over 1,400 Progress Energy customers lost power around 10:30 p.m. due to a large tree falling onto power line. The area affected stretched from Grimesland in Pitt county, into Chocowinity in Beaufort county.

About 673 customers in Lenoir county also experienced some scattered power outages. All power has been restored in areas outside Kinston and into Grifton.

    Ours was out too -- I woke up to it coming back on. Only reason I knew it was out is because our TV turns on whenever the power goes out and then is turned back on!

    My power was out at some point last night in Grimesland...luckily I slept through it lol...

    Many thanks go to the workers who restored the power so quickly in Beaufort County. We were without power for just a short time. I appreciate your dedication.
