The University of North Carolina Wilmington has ended a seven-year fundraising campaign early after raising more than $66 million.
School officials had hoped to raise $65 million in The Campaign for UNCW: Soaring Greatness before it was scheduled to finish at the end of this year but decided to end it early after the goal had been met.
The money will allow the university to fund 239 new scholarships for students and eight new distinguished professorships, that include specialties in cancer nursing and education..
UNC Wilmington had created only 200 scholarships in its 58-year history prior to beginning this campaign in 2005.
