UNC Has New Policy For Dealing With Sexual Assault

CHAPEL HILL (AP) - Administrators at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill have implemented new policies for responding to sexual violence.

Local media report that Chancellor Carol Folt said in a statement Thursday the policy applies to all students and employees and addresses harassment, interpersonal violence and stalking.

Earlier this year, a report issued by the university system suggested dozens of ways to improve campus security. It came after a year of study by a task force of university police chiefs, attorneys, medical professionals, student counselors and others who deal with crime, sexual assault and substance abuse.

The university says sex assault cases will be resolved differently. Instead of a student-led adjudication process, trained personnel will review complaints.

There's also a new website detailing prohibited conduct, including stalking gender-based harassment.
